PSG SINGING TEAM
A traditional practice to perform in Teachers’ Day concert – PSG decided to pay tribute to all CTSS teachers by performing a song “Wind Beneath My Wings”.
Five talented, beautiful and courageous parents sportingly took up the challenge. The singing team is led by Janis Tng, a Sec 3 parent; with Dawn Chua, Shirley Goh, Jacqueline Bu and Loo Hsi Har forming the team.
The ladies practised their vocal, lyrics, pitches, body swaying over several August weekends and evenings – in the meeting room @ school general office, or @ Shirley’s party house with hot soothing drinks served.
Janis patiently guided the team, with the committed members putting in all their time and effort to prepare for their best performance on Teachers’ Day concert.
At the Teachers’ Day Concert 2012, the five ladies gracefully walked to their positions on stage after Josephine Goh, PSG Chairperson, introduced the PSG Singing Ladies. Their wonderful voices won supports and applauses from the school audiences.
After the performance, all the singers mentioned they were able to sing well due to the warm responses from the students and teachers which encouraged them tremendously.
I was among the audiences, and was truly touched by the song. Yes, CTSS Teachers, you are the superheroes, not only to our kids, but to us, parents too.
Thank you, Teachers. Happy Teachers’ Day!

PSG CRAFT TEAM
.
This year Teachers’ Day celebration gathered PSG volunteers once again – making tissue pouches for female teachers & staff. This excellent gift idea was mooted by Jessica Soh, a Sec 1 parent, who led the parent volunteers throughout the craft sessions.
For three Saturday mornings in August, about 10 parents, casting aside their precious family times, met in the school general office’s conference room, busily away with this project.
On the first craft session, Jessica brought her portable sewing machine, stacks of colourful fabrics and a huge sewing kit box. Not to mention an iron from Josephine Goh!
The parent volunteers were waiting anxiously to begin the project. After Jessica explained the various steps to do to achieve the end product, the parents organized and setup the tasks among themselves within minutes. Such efficiency by enthusiastic parents!
The conference room was quickly filled with activities:
Stage 1: Cut the fabric to the required size using a template from Jessica.
Stage 2: Draw on the cutted-fabric lines for folding by following the template.
Stage 3: Iron the material and fold it according to the lines drawn.
Stage 4: Pin needles into the material – to facilitate sewing.
Stage 5: Sew two sides of the folded material using sewing machine – to speed up work.
Final stage: Turn the material inside out and a nice tissue pouch appear.
.
By the end of the session, the number of completed pouches was a miserably ten! Hence, 3 parents helped to bring the rest of material home to complete the sewing.
.
All tissue pouches were nicely sewed when the parents met at the second session. Thanks to the 3 parents who completed them at home.
.
To ensure the tissue pouches looked attractive and interesting, different ideas were shared on add-ons to the pouches. Final decision was to sew figurine buttons on them. Jessica bought many colourful design buttons. Even the parents admired the various cute designs.
It was tough having to stitch the buttons by hand into the material – given the fact that most parents revealed signs of having “luo hua yan”! However, all of them took up the challenge – giving their best within their limitation. Chit-chatting among them during the session helped to remove the weak visions away from their minds.
Subsequently, everyone had to bring some pouches home to complete sewing buttons on them.
At the last session, the parents added packets of tissue paper in all pouches before wrapping them. The male teachers & staff had their door gifts finalized & bought too – multiple flap cardholders.
.
After completion, everyone felt a great sense of achievement and satisfaction – amazed at how beautifully the pouches turned out.
During the Teachers’ Day dinner, all efforts truly paid off when the PSG members saw the delights on the female teachers’ expressions as they selected their door gifts. A few were pleasantly surprised to discover that these pouches were painstakingly handmade by PSG members. Many expressed their thanks and praises!
